HELP WANTED

Postby GyroVorbis on Tue Mar 09, 2010 2:43 pm

For those of you who don't know, we kindly requested help for both the website and pixel art on the last video. I got over 10 requests for people wanting to help with the site, and I got a single request for pixel art (and the guy never did follow up). I just wanted to let people know that we are still in need of both pixel artists and web developers for the team.

Web Developers
We are working on an extremely ambitious website to act as a portal for TheChaosRift. Instead of just focusing on Elysian Shadows, we want to create a community-oriented game development portal where people can host their own projects, become our affiliates, and get their updates featured on the front page. We also want to create an educational/article section, where we can create game development tutorials (and Youtube videos) to help our fellow developers.

We are hoping that a plethora of helpful, user submitted (and reviewed) articles will help bring new audiences to the site, and promoting everybody's projects will lead to the success of everybody here as a group.

Yes, this is a very ambitious goal. We currently have 2.5 web developers on the web team (one of us is going to be busy for a little while). We're looking to recruit more willing and able individuals. We are looking for both people with front-end design skills and back-end development skills.

Pixel Art
I'm not really sure why so few people are volunteering to interview for this position. Has Pritam scared you off?

We are looking for people with solid pixeling/concepting skills to join the project. If you have been considering maybe applying, you really have nothing to lose by doing so. If you have any friends who are pixel artists looking for work, please inform them of our vacancy.

We at Elysian Shadows know more than anybody that people aren't going to be willing to dedicate their lives to the project. We all have work, school, families and bills. We have a more "do what you can when you can" attitude than a "BITCH GET TO WORK!" attitude (unless you're Marcel, then disregard that last statement). You aren't selling your soul by volunteering to help us. :)

I'm going to be opening the interviewee forum to the public, so that those of you who are wanting to give it a go may apply.

Yeah thats me sorry I am working on my application (and have been since I requested). I have had a number of leeches on my time at the moment; pets, fixing up my room, planning and ordering a new computer, a sudden surge of college assignments, a minor health problem and I've been working on a program which I intend to use to show some of my pixel art in action(now complete).

I've discussed the pixel art appliction with a friend at college who seemed interested and I have another friend who is interested in applying for web development. My application will be up tonight in some form (this time). ;)

I just wanted to note to all people looking to apply for anything involved in ES, go in with a 110% attitude. These guys are rather nice and I'm sure any one of us has plenty we can learn by working together with this crew, so just be willing to put in the effort and you won't have problems.

Being a programmer does not seem to be enough these days  I have some old songs Cypher could pimp but I guess he's creative enough :)

It's great to see a project in a state where it turns from technical to creative. Best wishes for your game.

That seems like such a bad ass idea! I wish I could help personally! I have a few family members and friends that do web design/ art, so I'll send them a link and see if they are interested!

Drop a resume' down in the interviewee forum, if you don't mind.

The current web dev team (orangies) are going to be the ones interviewing you. Pritam is the main interviewer for the art position as well. I'm the middle man. ;)

Clutter posts will be deleted from applications...

Please don't post unless there's something relevant to you.

Especially don't attempt to highjack threads, DandyMcgee. If you want to post an application, please do so. But where and when it's appropriate. I'm sorry, but I removed your art post. I'd love to give you feedback if you're interested in a position; if this is a case, please fill out an application using our template.

I've PMed you a copy of your post before I deleted it incase there was something you'd wanted to salvage.

There was a reason they used to be private...

And my apologies if I'm coming off as an asshole. ^

I PMed Dandy this, which I think is applicable here:

It's not a big problem...It was mostly just rude! And nobody knew how exactly to respond...Were you trying to apply? Are you interested? We've got no idea, because you didn't say anything other than "here's the stuff you told him to make!" Nobody knew if you were just trying to say "Look, I'm better than him!!!11one" or if you were being serious.

I'm sorry if I came off as an asshole. It's just that nobody knew your intentions, and we don't want to be scaring away applicants by the fact that it's now public.

Also, I'd like to apologize for the whole mix-up. I've talked to Gyro about making that forum view-only by the public; that way only those who are being interviewed can post.

If you're interested, please don't let this hold you back! We'd love to have any talent we can get. Feel free to post your resume, and thanks for putting the time into the pieces you did.

Hey man, it's completely alright, your apologies are most certainly not necessary. I understand why this is so important to you, I wouldn't want someone walking into the middle of one of my interviews offering up their own creations over the top of mine. I replied to your PM, but I'll say it again. I mistreated the fact that the interview forum is now public, and should have put more thought into it before I so rudely interrupted.

I was actually just incredibly bored at the time, and felt like having a go at it. It wasn't an appropriate place to post my efforts. Although I'd do just about anything to further the project I love and respect so much, I simply don't have the time (or in my opinion the skills) to do so.
